Creating a Capital Campaign with Sequel Group and Stephen Mangan

Spending money on marketing for a capital campaign can sometimes be frustrating and feel counter-productive. Surely every penny we have to spend on the campaign should go into the vital building works that need to happen? So when Sequel Group offered to lend us their services for free as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, we jumped at the chance.

We’re delighted to be working with Sequel Group, and they are a great example of how local philanthropy can work. They work 2 minutes round the corner from us – not only is this very convenient but they are in tune with the area, and this is important to us as we have such a loyal group of local audiences and supporters.

Sequel first reached out to us last year, when they designed a flyer for two of our Christmas shows:

We liked what they did and when they offered to create a video for Restoration SOS we jumped on it. It was a great way to introduce the campaign to large numbers of people, tell the story we wanted, and most importantly generate donations to allow us to actually do the work. But making essential building work seem interesting can be a challenge – new boilers, insulation and leaking roofs don’t exactly pull on the heart-strings, even though the savings we make will allow us to plough more money into our activities. We needed a champion, and we were thrilled that actor Stephen Mangan offered to be that champion. Well known for his roles in Green Wing and Episodes, Stephen has been coming to the theatre with his family for years, and knows the value of the campaign in allowing us to carry on our work.

We are indebted to him, and to Sequel Group for their generous support of a local charity. The video had a great impact when it was launched on 27th May and within a few days over £2,500 had been donated. We still have some way to go to our overall target, and anything further you can donate would be hugely appreciated.
